Photography Case Study

Note: This case study can also be found in the Doc Sharing area as IT299 Project Scenarios.

Normally in developing a software application, network systems solution, or website for a client, the planning and analysis phases of the System Development Life Cycle (or another development model) would be followed. Here, the existing situations or conditions would be identified, problems would be defined, desired changes articulated, possible ways to solve the problems determined, along with the technology, software, and staffing needed.

For your project, existing conditions have already been identified and client needs have been articulated. Your part in the project is to research and present options for meeting those articulated needs. Your project analysis Assignment is to find possible solutions to meet those articulated needs. Specifically, you will be determining the types of hardware and software needed for McCall Southern to complete the project, for the client to implement the solution, and for it to be used by the staff at the client sites. Your report must contain details about what the project should do when completed; it needs to have high-level descriptions of the customer’s expectations and the criteria for success. You will need to justify your choices and how they will meet the business’s deliverable.

The specifics in your project analysis will depend upon whether you are involved in the networking, programming, Web development, or IT project manager project for the Photography Company.

Web/Networking/Programming:

Your analysis must include the following sections:

Two locations Photography Company

Location 1 - 15 computers 5 printers 3 scanners

Location 2 - 2 computers 2 printers scanners

1. An introduction to the overall project, including:

·  A brief summary of the company (the client company) and its services.

·  A statement of the existing situation and the problems or limitations that exist.

·  The desired changes and the goals to be met by them or the benefits of a new system.

2. Software and hardware McCall Southern employees need in order to work on this project.

3. Software and hardware the clients need in order to utilize the final products you deliver.

4. Software and hardware end-users at the client sites need in order to utilize the final products you deliver.

5. Personnel (resources) that are needed to complete the project, and the skills that they should have, and if they are available “in-house” or contract-based personnel need to be acquired.

6. Operational considerations, a security risk assessment, and possible costs. For information on risk assessments, conduct research on the Internet or Kaplan University Library on risk assessments. One particularly helpful resource is The Information Security Risk Assessment from the U.S. Government Accounting Office website.
