a) Factors that fueled the shift.
Evidently, in the late 15th century, the western European countries had doubled their per
capita compared to other countries. economic historians have attributed this growth
mainly to the adoption of the outward orientation development. Notably, the European
countries had well developed rule of law which is a significant recipe for such an
orientation. Second, in this era, the mediaeval European authority was decentralized thus
there was competition. Third, the European civilization had strategically aligned itself for
the course. Finally, the adoption of political competition and fragmentation in this region
resulted to individual rights and private property (Morgan).
b) Expectations of the first European voyager from the new world.
Led by Columbus, the voyagers expected to take some gold that they had expected to be
plentiful. Also, they had the idea that the spices in the Indies would be a viable business
