The Profit Season 4 Episode 1 Analysis
The fourth episode begins with a quest to revive Farell’s restaurant chain that did not
turn out as profitable as the two business partners had anticipated it would turn out to be. The
owners Mike and Paul bought the restaurant chain because they had beautiful memories of
their childhood when they ate with their families at the chain store. Paul is the Chief
Operating Officer while Mike is the Chief Executive Officer. Their business plan fails
miserably; the restaurant is highly in debt and has too many locations that sprung up a tad too
fast. Marcus Lemonis offers Farell’s owners capital investment worth $750 000 and expertise
in exchange for a 51 percent stake at the company. The owners take the deal and watch as
Marcus initial move is to improve the quality of Farell’s ice cream. The changes Marcus’
brings include improving the diversity of the menu and reducing the costs of food at the
restaurant (Kotler, 2011).
Marcus actually discovers that the restaurant is in an extra $200 000 debts than
previously stated. Marcus’ team decides that the best decision to make is to shut down the
most poorly performing food store restaurants. These poorly performing restaurant were
dragging performance down and had to be shut down so as to facilitate a complete overhaul.
