Abstract
The name substance-related and addictive disorder arises because the disorder arises from
multiple classes of drugs, these include caffeine, alcohol, hallucinogens like phencyclidine
among others, stimulants like cocaine and amphetamine, inhalants like sedatives, opioids and
hypnotics and lastly there is tobacco among other many addictive drugs. All these drugs when
taken in excess cause the brain to directly activate the reward system, this part of the brain has
the responsibility over the production of memories as well as behaviors. The roots of some
people’s substance-related and addiction disorder can be seen in behavior before the onset of the
real symptoms.
The disorder has been present since the beginning of human history with people using
herbs and alcohol to stay intoxicated. There are different ways of diagnosing the disorder which
are Impaired control, failing to reduce the usage though the person is willing to, risky use, higher
tolerance and withdrawals as well as social impairments. The disorder may be caused by
heredity, the environment in which a person is associated with as well as mental illnesses like
anger and stress.
In short-term treatments, a person can be detoxified and in some cases through different
recommended medications to overcome cravings. Long-term results which is aimed at being
