Introduction
Patient education includes the transference of health-associated knowledge from
numerous resources of healthcare information to the patients themselves including the
advancement of the essential skills for incorporating the knowledge gained into their lives.
The use of internet on New Zealand is accessed entirely by people who are under 40 years
and is alluded to as the greatest appreciated source of information (Gibson, Miller, Smith,
Bell, & Crothers, 2013). Although the internet platform facilitates for the acquisition of
information to assist in decision-making, it is characterized by noise which is obstruction
with the exchange of message and mutual message interpretation. DeVito (2012) recognizes
four types of noises including psychological, physiological, sematic and physical which
hamper in the access and understanding of information on health from online sources. He
explains that mental noise happens when there is an emotional obstruction to the
comprehension of the message while physiological obstacles comprise of cognitive issues
and poor vision. He adds that generation of sematic obstacles is during particular and
complicated terminology and the absence of mutual importance between the sender and
receiver. Physical barriers are the outside obstructions including decreased mobile or
computer screen visibility caused by small fonts or advertisements that pop up. The reduction
of these obstacles can be by the acquisition of skills in health knowledge in attaining,
interpreting, distinguishing, and relating information to make competent health management
choices and pursue appropriate health care.
