Description

As you conduct your library research and gather relevant sources for your paper, you should be taking notes. You can find some helpful advice on how to take notes in The Craft of Research section 6.6 (pages 95-99). An Annotated Bibliography is a way of writing up your notes so that another researcher could benefit from them. The goal is to describe the main ideas of each source and evaluate its relevance to a particular research project.

For this assignment you should summarize and critique at least 10 academic sources relevant to your research project. For each source include the complete bibliographic information in APA style. Then state the source’s thesis, and as briefly as possible explain the major reasons and evidence given in support of the thesis. Next evaluate the source’s credibility and what role the source might have in your final research paper. Each annotation should be about 100-200 words, and the entire bibliography should be 5-6 pages long.

Running head: RESEARCH TOPIC 1 Research topic Teresa Tucker LIB 356 Instructor McAteer March 26, 2017 2 RESEARCH TOPIC Research topic I am studying Christianity and Islam because I want to find out religion differences so that my reader can better understand the solution to Christianity vs. Islam issues. Humanities help in understanding various approaches towards spiritual aspects as well as mythological of different religions. The main aim of religion is to bring people from different cultures together. Although there are broad practices that Muslim and Christian religions hold in common, there has been growing rivalry between the two raising a major concern. It’s common for many religions to have a place of worship. Having a structure such as Mosques and Churches that are depicted as a holy place of worship usually creates unison between the two religions as the followers converge to worship their God (Michael et al. 2007). Among the similarities between the Muslims and Christians include practicing worship, prayer as well as sacraments in addition to reading the Bible or Quran and engagement in acts of communion and charity. There is more crisis between the religions where Christians oppress Muslims such as in Philippines as well as Christians being severely oppressed by Muslims like in Pakistan and Iraq. These disputes are escalated to a level that both Christians and Muslims routinely kill each other Nigeria being an example. My research will help in providing the solution to these conflicts by helping in building a network for “peace teams” to intervene in crises in case the religious differences are invoked as the main cause of different disputes. What I believe is that the religious differences might not be the main reason for the so-called religious conflict, but religion is rather used to mobilize the masses from the religion backgrounds in disputes that stemming from political as well as economic rivalries. 3 RESEARCH TOPIC References Michael O'Neal; J Sydney Jones; Neil Schlager; Jayne Weisblatt. (2007) “World Religions” Detroit: UXL/Thomson Gale. Research Topic Read Chapters 3 and 4 in The Craft of Research and then follow the three steps in section 3.4 to develop a clear statement of your research topic, question, and significance. In your assignment submission: 1. State your research topic in the format “I am studying _____ because I want to find out _____ so that my reader can better understand _____” (see p. 45-48). 2. Explain what problem you are trying to solve (See p. 51-54), including the consequence of not answering your research question (p. 56-58) along with any potential practical applications of answering the question (p. 59-61). 3. Discuss which humanities disciplines will be relevant to your topic and why (e.g., philosophy, religion, history, literature, art, etc.). Note that some disciplines are more relevant for solving certain kinds of problems, but even when multiple disciplines might be appropriate, focusing on one or more specific disciplines can narrow your research to make it more manageable. There is no length requirement for this assignment, but your entire explanation will probably not be much more than 1 page long.
