Clente stands out to be my favorite character in the Tartuffe. He is charismatic, always
ready to bet on the truthfulness of his words. His wisdom is unlike no other in the play. One of his
attributes that are adorable and remarkable, is the fact that he is not afraid of pointing out Orgon’s
mistakes, but sands up for the truth. This conspicuous character is not shaken by Orgon’s sarcastic
responses. Despite the fact that even after Clente’s acts of correcting Orgon, the efforts deem
fruitless. However, Clente hangs in there in holding onto the truth, being perseverant with Orgon’s
sarcastic responses.
The role played by Clente in Tartuffe is significant to the play, being presented as the
whistleblower for truth, voicing out integrity as a crucial virtue in the society. His presence in the
play is significant, having been positioned as a candle of truth in the midst of the darkness of
