Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)
After the specifications of original HDL, the designer decided to come up with PPP. The
designed PPT had additional features compared to HDL. Ultimately, the added features had
always been seen as only specifications to suit in proprietary data-link. In general, PPP is a layer
2 data link that is used to connect two nodes. PP can connect two routers directly without the use
of host or any other additional network device (Hamzeh et al., 2009). While using ECP or RFC,
PPP can transmit encryption by providing connection compression and authentication. There are
many types of networks that use PPP such as cellular telephones, trunk line, phone lines, serial
cable among others. Also, it used in specialized links and fiber optic links such as specialized
radios and SONET respectively. Furthermore, PPP can be used when accessing internet
connection. Due to the failure of modem line when transmitting IP packets on their own without
additional links, PPP is used for this purpose, especially for customer dial-up access.
Amazingly, PP can transmit IP packets successfully on their own without data link protocol.
Internet servers can use two directives of PPP, internet services to connect with their
customers. These two directives of PP include Point-to-Point Protocol Over ATM (PPPoA) and
Point-to-Point Protocol Ethernet (PPPoE). In most cases, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) Use
two directives of PPP in establishing Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) to work with their clients.
PPP is used in many places but mostly when connecting (Hamzeh et al., 2009). Amazingly,
multiple networks layers’ protocols can operate when using PP under same communication.
While using multiple layer protocols under same communication link, a separate Network
Control Protocol (NCP) is used to help in negation and encapsulating options for the layer
network protocols. Amazingly, there are no limits on how much bandwidth used as it can be
linked with a particularly dedicated fiber path. However, when used in local sites, it PPP is

restricted over services within a bandwidth of t 25 kilometers within each other. As such, Pointto-Point is the best protocol to use while communicating between two endpoints or nodes
without an additional internet link.
Packet Switched Protocol
When connecting over the long distances using the computer, Packet Switching is the
best approach to use because it is preferred while connecting o long distances. In general, packet
switching involves moderate little...
