The current African-America background on history focuses on the nationwide
recognized black leaders compared to social black movements. The civil rights movement in the
United States was a long lived movement that was founded to bring out civil rights of all
Americans. The movement was also founded to fight for the rights and discrimination of African
Americans and many other groups that were disadvantaged. There are leaders who were able to
stand out and not in favor of these harsh situations. Ever since, there have been many leaders of a
different skin color who have prospered to mind blowing extents. They are a motivation and an
inspiration (Myrdal, 1995).
Maya Angelou was a prominent civil rights leader who fought, in her own way, for the
African American people. Maya was a Writer who changed the thinking aspect of both the
literature world, political and cultural universe. Maya had a challenged childhood with the
division of her parents. She also went through sexual abuse from her mother’s then boyfriend.
She was quiet but she later informed her brother. After many years of situational changes, Maya
Angelou began exploring her skills as a writer which later became one of the most influential of
the present day. Maya and Martin Luther met after being motivated by King’s movement.
