science and religion. Philosophy, for the purposes of the author’s argument, means “critical and
constructive reflection on worldviews” (Stratton 177). The author then goes on to discuss how a
worldview is part of a person’s noetic structure, “the entire context of the propositions that a
person believes and the relationships among those propositions” (Stratton 177). In short, noetic
structures encompass all of a person’s beliefs, regardless of whether they are true, how closely
related they are, the confidence held in them by the believer, or the importance of the belief to
the believer. I found this to be a new and interesting way to view a hierarchy of beliefs. Stratton
then goes on to explain that a worldview is comprised of the most important beliefs because it
affects how a person sees reality. I wouldn’t agree with that definition because I have always
found a worldview to be more sociological, in that it is an understanding of how the world works
