You will create a "proposition of policy" speech thus attempting to persuade us into (or
into understanding) a course of action. (Please refer to Persuasive Speech Class Lecture
notes for further details on how to write your persuasive speech).
*This speech requires a written outline with all the requirements found on the Outline
Guideline Sheet. You are required to cite at least three resources at the bottom of your

where you found that information. Furthermore, you must verbally state all your
resources during your speech. See Outline Guideline Sheet for further information.

Visual Aid Requirement: A power point presentation, prezi or any other similar type
computer slide presentation, with at least five slides will be required!
*Your grade will be based on everything indicated on the Outline Guideline Sheet and
following the guidelines from the Persuasive Speech Class Lecture notes. It will also be
based on the Physical/Vocal Delivery reviewing Chapters 25 & 26 and being sure to
speak clearly in your sentence formation and properly speaking extemporaneously. Your
grade is also based on fulfilling the time requirement, the quality of your visual aid and
that you fill the five slide requirement, that you verbally mention your resources during
your speech and provided two hard copies of your outline on the day of your speech. Do
also see the Feedback Sheet Attached to this assignment!!!
(Please also refer to the rubrics for grading, as written on the syllabus)
PLEASE NOTE: Although I expect your speech/outline to contain everything as written
in both the Outline Guideline Sheet and everything written in the "It's Your Choice"
Persuaive Speech Assignment as a part of your grade, please note the following specific

requirement, will result in Three and a Half (3.5) points deducted from your final speech
grade, for each penalty occurred.
***However, do also note, that for each resource that does not contain a personal author,
half a point (0.5) will be deducted from your final speech grade.
(Note: there is a possibility to avoid this penalty if permission is received in advance
for a resource or resources, that does not contain a personal author. However, the
resource or resources must be deemed worthy of receiving this permission.

deducted from your final speech grade, for each absent slide.

information found in a main point) such as drugs, alcohol, sexual misconduct, or anything

whether or not your speech/outline information is appropriate.
Persuasive Speeches -Lecture Note Guide Sheet
Persuasive Speeches-What are we trying to do?
Our speeches will be a "proposition of policy" therefore in the most simplest of
terms, you are telling the audience why you should (not)" be doing something,
thinking something, understanding something a certain way...
***However, we have the freedom to use other words choices....Never, Necessary,
Must, Must Always, Have to etc.........
* We may not expect to fully change minds, but hopefully the audience will begin to
understand things differently
* Some speeches are simply motivational. I.e. "Why you should drink 8 glasses of
water a day". No need to convince me to drink water, but trying to motivate me into
drinking the proper amount for optimal health .........
