ASSIGNMENT & SCORING: Any HUM 212 student can choose to write as many as TWO 3-4 page book reviews to earn extra credit points from the book list below. Each book review score will be averaged with the lowest of your unit exam scores at the end of the semester. The new average will replace your lowest unit exam score. For example, a book review score of 90 could be averaged with a unit exam score of 70 for a result of 80. The score of 80 would replace the 70 in my gradebook and on Blackboard’s Grade Center. You can only do TWO book reviews.

Book Review
Frances Hill is the author of the book titled “A Delusion of Satan: The Full Account of
the Salem Witch Trials,” penned in the year 1997 and published by the Da Capo Press (Le, 15).
The text contains 269 pages of terrifying witch trials in Salem, making the book the first of its
kind in over five decades. The book derives its content from the modern psychological insights
on the hysteria that marked the witch prosecutions of the late seventeenth century and tries to
link them with the “witch hunts” in the twentieth century.
The book explores a period of more than three hundred years when there was a hysteria
which gripped Massachusetts at the time when the Salem witch trials occurred in late 1600,
which fascinated many readers around the world. Frances is now an acclaimed British author,
who is widely recognized for his literary skills especially in the application of contemporary
psychology to the Salem phenomena which resulted in much unexpected outcomes. One of the
principal arguments of the book was that of gender bias as nearly all of the afflicted individuals
were women. The author portrays vivid imagination and creativity where he portrays the Puritans
whose reasoning is questionable in the instance that they place a four-year-old child in prison
(Le, 12). In the book “A Delusion of Satan,” Frances replies to the queries of the policies behind
the witch trials and hunts and the similarities between the seventeenth century and twentieth
