emergence and advancements in technology have improved the process of communication
around the globe. Within the criminal justice system, technology has massively transformed
communication through efficiency and effectiveness. It is critical for the criminal justice
organizations to gather up-to-date information regarding criminal matters. Technology has also
enhanced the speed at which information is delivered within the system. Some of the modern
technology include biometrics such as iris scanning and face identification, Computerized
Fingerprint Identification and portable information terminals and among others.
Some of the electronic communication in the criminal justice organization involves
portable information terminals. Before the emergence of the digital systems in the criminal
justice system, data was primarily collected from the field and transferred via written reports and
information and subsequently stored in files. However, over the 1980s, the justice system
commenced incorporating computerized tools in their operations, and other law enforcement
started employing mobile information terminals. The majority of these mobile information
terminals were installed inside the patrol cars used by the law enforcement. However, these tools
