After your readings of hashtags, spend some time looking for hashtags used in business.

For the posting, write about two hashtags. Discuss the creativity of the hashtag or maybe the simpleness of it to identify the brand. Notice the attention/following that this hashtag achieved. Was it worth the company's effort? Write about anything else interesting concerning these two hashtags that you read in those articles or discussed with peers. Please comment on at least ONE of your peers' posts for this discussion posting. (There are an example about this discussion)

STUDENT 1: The first hashtag I looked at was the Doritos #BoldestChoice campaign. This was a hashtag started by Doritos prior to the 2016 election, which was used to encourage younger people to vote. Doritos set up vending machines across the country on college campuses, which did not let you choose the flavor you wanted unless you were registered to vote. If you were not registered, the choice would be made for you. This hashtag did not seem to have a very big following. When I looked at the hashtag on Twitter, it was generally only used by the Doritos account and Doritos employees. I assume this is because the campaign only effected the small amount of people who actually got to use one of these vending machines. The hashtag was also not easily definable or recognizable if you were not following Doritos to begin with. It was probably confusing to many, because you kind of have to watch the commercials for the campaign to understand the significance of the hashtag. The second hashtag I looked at was #MarvelTopTen, which came from the Marvel twitter account. Marvel periodically posts "top ten" videos ranking their characters, story arcs, movies, etc. by different criteria. These tweets also encourage users to respond with their own lists. This hashtag seems to be fairly successful. It encourages users to discuss their favorite comic book heroes and stories, which is a fantastic was create engagement on the platform. Because people are so eager to share their thoughts, this hashtag has a decent following. STUDENT 2: 1) My first one is from Pick Up Jazz. It's a company that promotes learning music (a lot of guitar) in the jazz style with tutorials and such. They use the hashtag with their simple name of #PickUpJazz and whoever uses it can have the chance to get featured and noticed on their Instagram page. I follow an artist who always uses it as well and he has gained many followers. I definitely think their hashtag works because when I click on it there are thousands of people popping up trying to get noticed and has received attention. However, I'm not sure how many lessons they sell online from it. 2) The second hashtag is from my town's local coffee shop called Eclipse. They post in their bio and media to use the hashtag. (#eclipsecoffeeandbooks) Unfortunately I don't think it works well for them. It is too long and the simple #eclipse one has been used much more often. They could get more business maybe using a different hashtag and gathering a bigger following in order to spread it better. On the other hand the hashtag does name exactly what they are all about. STUDENT 3: My first hashtag is used by the company Voodoo Slacklines and it is #dooyoovoodoo They provide this hashtag for customers and fans to use to share videos or pictures of themselves using Voodoo product. This serves a dual purpose; one it provides free advertising for Voodoo, two it allows users to show off by being featured on Voodoo's social media sites. I think the hashtag is creative in that it misspells the words so that it resembles the companies name. It is also easy to read and easy to remember The second hashtag I will use was used by Climbing Magazine. Climbing Magazine uses #TechnicalSolutions to routinely provide their clients with proper ways to do certain rock climbing tasks. These can range from knots, to equipment, to cite selection, to first aid. They use this hashtag as a tool to put information into easy to access places so that climbers can access it when they need it. The one flaw I see with this hashtag is that it is not very informative about what kind of technology they are talking about if all the viewer has to go on is the hashtag. STUDENT 4: The first hashtag is on the facebook fan page of Chick-fli-A. The hashtag is #MorningsWorthSharing# This post is noticeable because it has an interesting story with a video. Many fans liked this post. I think it achieved it's real purpose. This short video not only relate a simple story but also advertise for Chick-fli-A. The story is about a Asian girl who was adopted by American family in 1999. It's touching. The second hashtag is #National Puppy Day# on Walmart's facebook fan page. It's also a sucessful post liked by mang loyal customers of Walmart. The post includes a short video of puppy. Actually the real intention of this post is to advertise for the dog products in Walmart. They know how to run business. Making full use of the National Puppy Day to advertise for dog products.
