Question description

For this essay, you will be writing a proposal/solution essay.

A Proposal/solution argument is designed to persuade readers to take action against a given problem in a particular way.

For more information about proposal/solution essays, consult chapters 15 and 16 in your textbook and/or our lecture notes.

GUIDELINES

Your proposal must accomplish the following:

  • Identify a problem, and persuade your reader that the problem a) is genuine and b) requires a solution.
  • Suggest a proposal that will help alleviate or correct the problem.
  • Justify your solution and demonstrate why it is better than alternatives.

It also must:

  • Be at least 1,500 words (approximately 6-7 pages)
  • Contain AT LEAST four reputable outside sources, with both properly formatted in-text citations and a work cited page (I WILL NOT grade papers that do not have both, and you WILL NOT have an opportunity to revise!).
    • At least ONE of your sources must come from an academic database. These are available at the college library’s website at http://salemcc.edu/library/journal-articles
      • Good databases to use: Academic Search Premier, Encyclopedia Britannica, Newspaper Source Plus, Points of View, Proquest (multiple disciplines)
