Northcentral University Psychology Essay
Please read the vignette entitled, “The Gomez Family” found at the bottom of this assignment. Conduct a needs assessment by completing the “Needs Assessment and Case Plan” form found in this week’s resources section. After determining the specific needs for the family, conduct a search of resources in your community to meet each need. Fill in each column of the Needs Assessment and Case Plan form, including the following information:Specific Need for the family and/or individual membersName and type of resourceContact information (phone number, address, hours of operations, etc.)Contact procedure (i.e., walk-in clinic, must call to make an appointment, must have a referral from a mental health worker, how to access non-English speaking assistance)Cost involvedAny additional information that would be helpful to the clientAfter completing the Needs Assessment and Case Plan form, briefly (1-2 pages) describe what your experience was like finding these resources.Where did you find the information? How difficult or easy was it for you to locate the information and details you needed?Did you ask other clinicians?Did you use the Internet?Did you find it necessary to call the service/agency to clarify how and when to access these services? How difficult do you think it would have been for a client to find this information on their own?The Gomez family is a Mexican-American family consisting of the mother Maria, age 38; stepfather Henry, age 48; the oldest daughter, Mary, age 16, the oldest son James, age 14, a set of twins, Sam and Jordon, ages 8, and a newborn son Henry Jr., age 9 months. The older children Mary, James, and the twins, have a different father, who is currently in prison for armed robbery. Both Maria and Henry are unemployed, although Henry reported working almost full-time in manual labor jobs until about 4 months ago when he was seriously hurt at work. He stated it is painful to walk for long periods at a time and his back always seemed to hurt. Henry is an undocumented immigrant, which has made it difficult to seek full-time employment other than manual labor jobs. Due to three months of missed payments, the family recently received an eviction notice from the landlord for the three-bedroom apartment they live in. They currently plan to go to a hotel and cannot take most of their belongings with them. The parents report they have no medical insurance and currently live off of Maria's welfare check each month. However, they have had to sell a portion of their food stamps each month to have the cash to pay the utility bills. Maria reports having very little food left in the house, and it is only the 15th of the month. Maria reported struggling with depression for most of her adult life and at times turning to drugs when things "get too bad." The family initially came into therapy because James was recently suspended from school due to bad behavior. Maria stated that James has always struggled in school and she is concerned he may have some learning problems.Length: 3-5 pagesReferences: None required; include references if used to complete the reflection portion of the paper.https://go.openathens.net/redirector/ncu.edu?url=h...https://login.openathens.net/saml/2/sso/ncu.edu/o/...https://shibboleth.ebscohost.com/Shibboleth.sso/SA...

SOCIAL JUSTICE, DIVERSITY, AND POVERTY DISCUSSION BOARD, sociology homework help
Mrs. Harjo and Tony: Mrs. Harjo (age 65) is a Creek Indian widow and matriarch of the Harjo Bear Clan. She lives on Harjo Hill and subsists on Supplemental Security Income, food stamps, and her garden. The place name was bestowed by a rural postmaster many years ago and the entire Harjo extended family has lived and died on "the hill" for as long as local residents can remember. A paternal grandson, Anthony "Tony" Door Jr. (age 13), recently moved in with Mrs. Harjo following his mother's death from acute alcohol poisoning. Tony's biological father, Anthony Harjo, is currently serving five years in county jail on a third conviction. Tony's parents were never married, and his white mother never obtained a legal divorce from her first husband before becoming Tony’s common-law wife. When Tony was born, the hospital registrar listed the first husband as the legal father on his birth certificate. Nevertheless, the child was named for his biological father and called Tony. Trying to do the right thing, Mrs. Harjo went to Tony's school to give notice of a change of address and to put her name on file as guardian and emergency contact. School officials pointed out that Tony was not legally related to Mrs. Harjo, and that therefore she had no authority to authorize medical care, or to enroll Tony in school. The principal referred Mrs. Harjo to Legal Aid where she appealed for help in getting Tony's paternity corrected. The attorney advised that Anthony adopt Tony in order to change the legal parent. However, Legal Aid refused to take the case because Tony's father was incarcerated, and because of his criminal record could not give a favorable home study. Moreover, the whereabouts of the legal father are unknown, and thus no relinquishment can be secured. Tony's aunts and uncles discussed adopting him and argued about the injustice of taking him away from his natural father through "white law."
