Description

At this point, you have been introduced to various security tools (Network Discovery, Network Scanning, DLP, Firewalls, and HIDS). You are to take one of the five identified categories of tools and identify two specific products from different vendors. Based on two products, please research the differences and similarities between the two products. You should also evaluate the implementation issues you may face with each product. Based on your research, please create a PowerPoint or a similar presentation to explain your research and your findings of the tools. The presentation should be comparative in nature as to highlight the similarities between the two products you researched.

The presentation must contain the following:

  • Product Background
  • Pros and Cons of each product
  • Side by Side comparison
  • Recommendation

PowerPoint Requirements

  1. Easy to follow and understand
  2. Ratio of words to background (Essentially, not too many words on a slide. Highlight the essentials)
  3. Graphics – Charts, Graphs, Illustrations, etc.
  4. Other – media – Audio, Video, etc.
  5. Safe – Assignment comparison will be done
  6. Not more than 15 to 18 slides

Introduction
 What is a firewall?
Digital Equipment Corp. engineers described firewall as a packet-filtering system that silently discarded network
data packets by scrutinizing the information in the actual packets.
Generally, firewall can be described has a network security device(hardware , software or both) which monitors
incoming/outgoing network traffic and decides whether to allow or block specific traffic based on a defined set of
security rules( Mankell,2012). Firewall can be said to be the first means of defense in the network security. They
create a obstacle between secured and controlled internal networks that can be trusted and untrusted outside
networks, such as the Internet.

Firewall background/History
 Firewalls was introduced during the introduction of internet, when the WWW was referred
as the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) (Leeuw,2007).

 Since then Firewalls have evolved with the evolvement of the internet. They have
transformed into something much more than just packet-filtering mechanisms or
application gateways. First firewalls were developed to restrict the outside access to
network resources.

Firewall Generations/History
 First generation firewalls
Packet filters-firewall technology was first published in 1988,by Jeff Mogul from Digital
Equipment Corp (DEC).DEC developed filter systems referred as packet filter firewalls.
 Second generation firewalls
Circuit level-This was developed in1980-1990 by two workmates from AT&T Company, This
was the second generation and it was referred as circuit ...
