The architecture of the Constantinople’s Hagia Sophia
The design of the church was made from a mix of Greek, Roman, and Asian style as it
involved a large dome which was set on a square base. This replaced the mostly used vaulted
roof with spherical arches and spires also forming a common feature in the Byzantine buildings.
The height at the dome top was 180 feet with its diameter being 102 feet with most of the
building made of brick with limestone and sandstone building some sections. With over 180 feet
