Spring Break---Life Seeing Tourism Experience The goal of this assignment is for you to critically examine an “experience” over spring break through the lens of a traveler anthropologist and that you apply what we have talked about in class. The “experience” that you consider must have happened over spring break. It does require that you “travel” in the traditional sense. The “experience” you consider can take place at home or away. Each student is required to prepare a 6 to 8 pages printed on paper that summarizes and/or highlight new experiences that help you better understand yourself, others, locations, governments, policies, recreation activities, relationships, tourism, and travel. This assignment requires that you explore and examine “life” from the perspective of an anthropologist. As you learned in class: A tourist touches only the most superficial aspects of a culture. A traveler digs much deeper to really experience aspects of the new place first hand. An anthropologist delves deeper still into what a culture and it’s people are all about. They constantly make inferences about the places they are visiting, the people they are meeting and the things they are observing. They use a wide angle lens--paying particular attention to: cultural contradictions; the way conflict is managed; the way status is acquired and maintained; and the dimensions of space, objects, activities, goals and feelings. Basically, the assignment requires you to specify and describe a spring break experience and how this “experience” enriched your understanding of yourself, place, people, tourism, community, life, love and anything that you consider to be important. Essentially, this assignment requires you to discover and learn. The paper should include the following components: •Overview of the experience. This section should address the following types of questions relative to the experience that you are going to be writing and talking about. For example, what are you writing about? Were you with others or did you have this experience alone? What is your prior experience with this “new” experience? What did you do during your experience? Why did you do this? Did you enjoy yourself? Why? or Why not? What did you learn from your choice? •Connection with the Course and Lectures. This section should integrate and provide concrete examples of the relationship between your “experience” and the things that you learned and covered in class. For example, you should review each of the major lecture topics and discuss at least three or four general themes (i.e., history of travel, travel related change, cultural shock, culture and identify) or specific attributes/details of a lecture (e.g., things to include in travel journal, types of cultural shock, etc.). •Overview of the personal growth associated with this assignment. This section should provide a brief description of some of things that you learned about yourself and everything or anything else. In essence you are in charge of your own learning—What did you learn? How did you learn it? What will it mean to you and your life? •In order to attain a satisfactory grade on this assignment it is expected that the paper include an introduction that allows the reader to understand the objectives of your paper and a conclusion that effectively summarizes the knowledge attained through the completion of this assignment. The paper should effectively communicate the required information making use of examples to illustrate important points and must be integrated with the lectures and readings. The paper must be well organized and written.

Running Head: Orlando
Overview of the Experience in Orlando
My area of interest in this script is going to be the culture of Orlando, people of Orlando,
their language and the where originality of Orlando and its name. This was my first visit to this
city and the experience I got there was fascinating. I visited several laces from the lakes,
museums and interacted with different people and how they believe they ended up being in
Orlando. Some believed that Orlando city was named after a soldier died during the second
Seminole War in that area and he owned many cattle ranches in that particular area who had a
name called Orlando Reeves. Others believed that Orlando name was a result of a hero by name
the great Shakespearean lay and some said that Orlando was inhabited by Seminole people
before the white settlers came into power in 1535. Orlando has a very interesting history and it
attracted my attention and made my visit to be awesome and have great experience in this region.
The whole experience in this city was unimaginable and after another spring break I hope to visit
this area again. People have diverse beliefs on this city and they are so patriotic to their soil,
families, friends and society at large. After the Mosquito invasion division of 1845, Orlando
became the county’s county sear. Thereafter, after the Spanish-American war and World War 1,
this city became a very popular town which everyone around the region wanted to visit and
witness whether these events truly happened. There were a lot of house developments, roads and
infrastructures and even became more popular when Walt Disney had plans to build the famous
Walt Disney world in 1965. Soon it emerged to Universal Studios, sea world and later many
parks that made this city to have most popular tourist destinations from all people round the
globe.
After going to one of the oldest museums in history of Orlando I was shocked to where
the city has become and how it was in 1800s. I learnt the city had interesting facts, this was my

first destination in this spring which I was all alone the journey. Next time I vowed to come with
my family for us to get enlightened all together. I learned that the city emerged as a result of
Seminole wars which came to place in 1835 and the U.S army built Fort Gatlin to protect
themselves from Indian attacks. By the end of 1839 a community by name Jernigan had grown
so much in that area that it settled permanently in that region and even built their own post
office. From this step I learned a lot of things about Orlando that I never knew ad it was not
exposed in the internet but the history was published in the books of Orlando museum. The most
fascinating story and theory of Orlando city was the one I was explained by one of the museum
attendant that they believed that there was a group of soldiers during the Seminole wars ho
battled the Indians who were pushed to the swamps on the east side of Lake Minnie which is
nowadays referred to as Cherokee. Orlando Reeves who was guarding the camp and spotted
something floating on the lake and he fired his gun in order for him to warn the soldiers of the
imminent danger approaching. The Indians got chased away and Orlando Reeves was buried
near Lake Eola.
Lake Eola
After this explanation I was interested to learn about the lake. That is, Lake Eola, what
attractions it gives to the tourists like me, what people of Orlando think of it and their beliefs of
that lake and its surrounding regions. Lake Eola was discovered as a sandy beach which people
respected it because of the surrounding it has. They came here to enjoy themselves on hot days in
the area. Some settlers volunteered land for the public to come and enjoy their moments in that
lake. Sandy beach was renamed Lake Eola in respect to the memories of Robert Summerlin’s
who died and later this lake was recognized as city of Orlando public park.

That was in 1888. At that moment the lake was not moving to the general public until the
Swans arrived in 1922. This was after a popular scientist in an America started crossbreeding at
the lake and first Swan emerged. The Swans were being fed lettuce, spinach and pellet food
which was found in the parks. They were regularly checked by the Swans veterinary their
records were being updated at each moment.

In 1924 the Eola hose was built by George Marsh. This place had the oldest p...
