While considered devastating to the South, the Civil War generated tremendous economic
growth to the American economy and industrial strength to the North. The increase in wealth
was felt in all sectors of the society further providing capital to industrialists whose political
power steadily grew. However, industrialization at the time also brought about adverse effects
such as the elimination of competition, corruption when entrepreneurs sought to influence
governmental actions in their favor, and even child labor, (Franklin, J). However, like most
elements of innovation, the benefits of American industrialization exceed the disadvantages.
Thus it is without a doubt that the Civil War initiated comprehensive reforms that shaped the
American politics, society, and economy into the world power industry as it is known today.
The end of the Civil War initiated a series of reforms all over the nation. The Agricultural sector
experienced overproduction as well as lower prices allowing trade to remain fair and
advantageous to all parties. Entrepreneurs and other innovators pushed their ideas to fuel the
growth of the United States industry to an empire whose power felt in new regions of the world
that had not yet started experiencing such growth, (Franklin, J). Besides, stiff competition with
European nations influences the US to develop new and better strategies that saw the American
