Introduction
What we do in the shadows is a 90 minutes film produces and directed in the new Zealand and
its setting is a mockumentary horror film whose characters are a group of vampires who share a
house in the Wellington. The film is starred by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi who also
wrote the script and directed it. The film premiered in the 2014 and earned a revenue of $6.9 out
of a budget of $1.6 million hence it can be stated that the film was a success (Clement, & Waititi,
2017). This paper will therefore summarize and react to this film.
Summary
Viago, Vladislav, Petyr, and Deacon are vampires that live in the same apartment at the suburb
of Te Aro the city of Wellington. The vampires are several centuries old however Petyr is the
oldest in the group with a whopping 8000 years old, however, his character is more savage
compared to the other younger vampires. The appearance of these vampires is still human like
despite their great age. Every night the three young vampires roll out in the dark searching for a
human to prey on, however, to avoid the sunlight they retreat to their apartment. The vampires
had a human aide called Jackie who has served them or a very longtime, however, to maintain
her loyalty, they turn object her persistence demand of becoming like them. Jackie, on the other
hand, maintains her loyalty and serves the vampires diligently. In one occasion she sends her
former boyfriend Nick into the vampires’ apartment so that they can suckle blood out of him and
kill him. However, the plan backfires and nick escapes the capture. Later on. Petyr captures Nick
and turns him into a vampire and accepts him into the vampires’ team after a while (Clement, &
Waititi, 2017).

The vampires realize that the world has changed and so they befriend a computer programmer
called Stu, and one of the human friend and his role is to help the vampires adopt the new
technology. Nick, on the other hand, tries hard to cope with the lifestyle of the Vampires,
however, he goes round bragging and telling every person on the roads and night clubs that he is
a vampire, he even goes further to reveal their secrets to strangers. Among the people, Nick
disclosed the information is a vampire hunter, who later on execute his plan by breaking into
their apartment and exposing the 8,000-year-old Petyr to the sunligh...
