Description

This Assignment measures your ability to outline research methods. There are many research designs that are used in developmental research. As discussed in textbook Infants, Children and Adolescents, longitudinal, cross-sectional and sequential designs are used to assess developmental change and to explore developmental topics and changes over time.

This Assignment is composed of two parts:

Part 1:

Think about what you would like to learn about developmental change; then create your own research question that would require using either a longitudinal, cross-sectional, or sequential design. In two pages, write out your question and explain which design would be most appropriate to answer the question and why.

Part 2:

Go to the Kaplan online Library and find one longitudinal, cross-sectional, or sequential research article that studies development in infants, children, or adolescents. Be sure that the article that you find is an empirical peer-reviewed article, with an abstract, purpose, methods, results, and a conclusion. If you are unsure about your article choice or have difficulty finding an appropriate article, please contact your instructor for help.

Write a three-page summary of the research. Be sure to address the following questions in your summary:

What was the research question the author was investigating in the study?

How did the author(s) conduct the research? What methods were used? Be sure to name the research design (longitudinal, cross-sectional, or sequential).

What conclusions were made based on the research?

Clearly identify your chosen article by citing it within the text of the summary and referencing it on a reference page

Part 1: To Analyze Factors that Enhance Cognitive Performance among the Adolescent
Youths
There are many factors that enhance the cognitive performance of the growing
generation. Physical activity increases the cognitive performance of the youths. This is because
the brain contains particular hormones that are active when you engage in physical activities.
This increases the cognition of the youth since their memories are increased. Furthermore,
exercise prevents the damage of the brain that may cause reduced cognitive performance. Studies
also indicate that increased motor skills and physical exercises have an effect on the cognitive
performance of school going children. It is evident that school going children who attend
physical exercises score more than those who do not (Trudeau & Shephard, 2008). In addition, it
is evident that openness to experience is another factor that influences cognitive performance.
The ability of an individual to learn new skills through training programs improves their
cognitive performance. Learning new skills enhances the knowledge on a particular event that
was not known to the person. Performing a completely new task that is challenging is more
important in learning new skills.
Curiosity and creativity encourage a person to acquire more knowledge and research on
certain topics. When a person is determined to know about a particular act, nothing will stop him
until he accomplishes his wish. This factor encourages people to involve their minds and brains
until they achieve the desired results. In the process, cognitive performance is enhanced hence
positively impacting on an individual’s performance. Creativity on the other hand also impacts
