The author talks about her life with cancer and the choice to die with dignity since her
aggressive cancer cannot be cured. Maynard argues that no one has the right to choose for the
terminally ill. Besides, the terminally ill persons do not deserve to suffer the tremendous amounts
of emotional and physical pain in the name of trying to prolong their lives. As such, letting the
patients themselves to possess their prescriptions and have the choice to end their lives is
incredibly important to them. This will give the terminally ill a feeling of peace at a joyous time
that would otherwise be dominated by uncertainty, fear, and pain. As a result, the patients can
move forward with the remaining days of their lives and spend happy time with their loved ones.
