Description

For your response, choose a post that discussed an age range that was different than your chosen age range (4 year old) and compare and contrast how the motor and linguistic milestones vary among the age range you chose and that of your peers. Then, after watching the video Top Warning Signs Your Child is Developmentally Delayed, discuss one way to identify a motor, language, and/or cognitive delay in children (Pollack, n.d.).

I have chosen to study those in the age developmental age range of two year olds. For this age range I will discuss the following:

Cognitive development milestones: For a toddler at age two, it is common for the child to find things that are hidden, to sort shapes and colors, to complete sentences, to play simple games, to build towers and use one hand more than the other, to follow simple instructions, and to name items in books that they see.

Language development milestones: For a toddler at age two, it is common for the child to point to things when they are named, to know names of familiar people and body parts, to speak sentences with four words, to follow simple instruction, to repeat words, and to point at things in books.

Motor development milestones: For a toddler at age two, it is common for the child to stand on tiptoes, kick balls, begin to run, climb onto things without help, to walk up and down stairs, to throw balls, and to make or copy lines and circles.

These development milestones rely heavily on the child’s ability to process the information around them, such as sight, sound, smell, taste and feeling. This relationship can be seen both inside and outside the classroom, if observing a child partaking in a particular activity that requires concentration or deep thought.
