During the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, there are a number of
compromises that Framers created and they include: the great compromise also referred to as the
Connecticut compromise. The intentions for the compromise were to help solve the problem of
representation in the congressional house. This was an agreement that took place between big
and small states. It described the legislation and structure of representation in upper and lower
house by the various states in the United States. It retained the idea of bicameral legislation
which was the idea of Roger Sherman (Agranoff & McGuire, 2001). Bicameral legislature is a
scenario whereby the legislatures in the house are split into two. The states were allocated two
members to be representatives in the upper house and at the same time the slots were allocated
according to the population of the state.
The other compromise the three-fifths compromise, it stated that all the slaves in a
particular state should be regarded as three fifth of a white individual. During the appointment of
representatives the numbers of slaves would be calculated as three-fifth of the population. This
ideology would also be imposed in the collection of taxes in the various states. The biggest
