Why the Star Wars films and the LOTR novels received popularity in the ‘70’s and 2000’s.
The Lord of the Rings
The novel Lord of the Rings is a high-fantasy piece written by author J. R. Tolkien. The whole
story started as a sequel from Tolkien's 1937 fictional piece The Hobbit, and eventually turned
into a larger work. The novel was written in stages starting from 1937 to 1949. The novel later
turned out to be one of the known best-selling novels written in history, with more than 150
million copies of the novel sold.
The title Lord of the Rings refers to the antagonist in the story, Dark Lord Sauron, who had
created a One Ring which he used to rule other Rings of Power as an ultimate weapon to conquer
all of the Middle-earth. From the quiet beginnings at a hobbit land unlike the English

Peregrin Took and Brandybuck, but the hobbits' allies and journey companions: Men Aragorn
Arathorn’s son, the North ranger, and Captain Boromir of Gondor; Gimli of Glóin, the Dwarf
warrior; Greenleaf, Elven prince; and a Wizard Gandalf.

separate other The Silmarillion. This idea however was dismissed during publication by the
publisher. Due to economic reasons The novel Lord of the Rings got published as three volumes
in the course of 29 July 1954 to October 1955. These three volumes came with the titles The
Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, and Return of the King. In terms of structure, the novel is
internally divided into six sub-books, two in each volume, with appendices containing
background material available after the end of third volume. several editions come with the

entire work compiled in a single volume. The novel Lord of the Rings was reprinted many times
and later translated into more than 38 different languages.
