Executive Summary
The paper contains a compilation an examination of the opportunities as well as the
challenges of doing business in Saudi Arabia for an international automobile company known as
Ford Automobiles Company. The paper will cover various areas including the macroenvironment included as the PESTEL analysis and SWOT analysis because the principal aim of
this report is to provide the information that regards how international companies change their
strategies in Saudi Arabia due to the economic, cultural, regulatory and political differences in
the land.
The Ford Motor Company is an auto manufacturer that operates on a multinational basis.
The company is based in Michigan, in U.S and has been in existence since the year 1903. The
focus of the company is the sale of automobile and the commercial vehicles using Ford as its
brand and several other luxury vehicles under the brand Lincoln. Ford brand hold shares in other
auto companies such as Aston Martin Company of the UK where it has a stake of 15%, 2.1%
stake in the Mazda, a Japanese company, and 49% interest in Jialing that is based in China. It
also has a range of joint ventures in Thailand, China, Russia, and Turkey. Ford has a small share
in the Arabian market particularly due to the boycotting of the Arabs against corporations that
worked with Israel. However, there has been a gradual change that has facilitated selling of Ford
and Lincoln in ten of the countries in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia being among them.
According to Kerwin (2002, p.49), this has been established due to stiff competition in
the industry of the automobiles as well as the adjustments in the environmental facets. This
explains why the Ford motors must focus on the enhancement of their weaknesses so that they
can prevail over the threats.
