Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Part I: Examining Cinematography
Discuss your film’s point of view.
The film is shot from a third person’s point of view. Most actions movies are shot this way
because it is the best way to show all of the action that is happening.
How are camera angles used within your film? Be sure to point to at least two specific
scenes.
A bird’s point of view is used when the main character, Jack Reacher, is attacked by four
mysterious men that had been following him. They chose the bird’s point of view for the
beginning of this scene in order to represent him as being represented vulnerable. However, as
soon as the fight starts, and we see that Jack is stronger than all of the four men together, the
camera angle gets lower. It quickly changes to the worm’s point of view, as to show his
masculinity and strength.
Discuss how your film is framed.
First of all the aspect ration of the movie is 16:9. As for the framing, each frame follows certain
composition rules. All of the frames follow the rule of thirds, putting the most important focuses
on the points where the lines cross. They also pay attention to the symmetry of the frame.
Discuss one scene and depth of field.
In the last scene, Jack and Sam were talking in front her art school. At first, when the shot is
medium, they use depth of field in order to isolate them from the background and shift the focus
towards them and not the school. As the conversation continues, and the camera starts shooting
over one person’s shoulder, they use depth of field to emphasize the current speaker and his/her
facial reactions.
Using at least one scene examine the ideas of contrast and color.
Most of the movie uses neutral colors that do not really stand out. The focus in the most of the
scenes is on the people’s faces. In some action scenes, there is a contrast between blue and
orange. The cool tone of blue indicates a sense of coldness and apathy that is spread throughout
the movie. However, in the last scene, where the happy ending is just around the corner and
everyone can finally be at peace, they use the complimentary red and green. Red is representing
love and passion between Sam and Jack, and the green is representing renewal and growth. It
fills us with positive energy and has a calming effect.

Discuss one scene and the concept of movement.
The camera is both panning and tilting when Reacher and Turner are running away from prison.
The movement i...
