The Fences film is set in the 1950s in an African-American family. The father Troy
Maxson faces off with his son Cory over college admission. Troy is struggling to break the racial
barriers by striving to be the first African-American truck driver in garbage collection. He soon
wins his war. Further, his son gets the opportunity to go to college on a football scholarship. He,
however, declines to sign the permission papers. Troy does not want his son to face the same
racial barriers that prevented him from becoming a pro baseball player. The film brings out the
themes of race in the 50s and the masculinity and role of a man in his family.
The film brings forth the harsh reality of life and the path it takes within a limite...
