Colonial and American Slavery
Colonialism is a political system through which an external nation takes full control of
another territory. Slavery in America existed between 17th and 19th centuries; which was
deemed to be legal at first but later turned to be illegal after the emancipation implementation for
the slaves. The practice began in 1619 when African slaves were first transported to the North
American; specifically, the colony Jamestown Virginia to work in the production fields of
lucrative crops such as tobacco. In 1793, the central importance of slavery was solidified due to
the invention of the cotton gin.

American Slavery
Slavery in America was practiced in North America from the early colonial days and by
the time independence was declared, it was legal in thirteen colonies. In America, Africans who
were subjected to slavery during the colonial period suffered through different colonial regimes
which included the British, French and the Spanish. After the declaration of independence in
1776, slavery continued in America. During the American Revolution (1775–1783), the people
of the African descent were institutionalized as a racial caste. After the amendment of the
constitution in 1789, only a relatively of Africans were allowed to vote. Abolishment of slavery
