A change is gonna come is a song by Sam Cooke that was produced in 1964. The song
reveals many themes that have been witnessed in the American political scene over the years.
The first them that is in the song comes from the title, change. Even though change has been
witnessed in the American scene from the time the song was produced, the first biggest change
was the election of Barrack Obama as President. It has not been the norm for America to elect a
black president but Obama became the first against all the odds. Obama was even quick to
paraphrase the Song of Sam Cooke in his speech while declaring that, “it’s been a long time
coming, but tonight, change has come to America.” The vision that Cooke had on the black
American people came to fruition by the election of the first black President ("A Change Is
Gonna Come by Sam Cooke Songfacts", 2017). However, the election of the first black president
does not mean that racism has come to an end in America. The things that prompted Sam Cooke
to write the song in the first place, being kicked out of a Louisiana Holiday Inn in 1963, have not
come to an end.
The second theme in the song is the talents that the black people have. Sam Cooke was a
talented music who was responsible for laying the framework for the modern soul music
