Written Assignment

Come up with an idea for a new product that would provide relevant digital information to a person in some situation. Pattie Maes presented several examples in the video. Next, clearly explain the benefits your new product would provide to a group of consumers and how it would be better than what they currently use/do.

Finally, discuss how you think the success of your new product would be influenced by each of the five characteristics of an innovation (i.e., relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, divisibility, and communicability). (Note: Review both Chapter 20 of the Kotler & Keller textbook and the grading rubric as you prepare your written assignment.)

Your written assignment should be at least 3 pages long, not including any citations. In terms of format, it should be single-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5" x 11") with 1" margins on all sides. NEW PRODUCT INNOVATION

The creation of a product which provides details to the user wherever they are has
become a huge challenge in today’s world with multiple applications and devices being invented
on a daily basis. A device which can recognize the requirements of an individual in real time can
be hard as well as expensive to both create and integrate. The device will have to be connected to
the cognitive mind of the user to get the requirements as the user wants or be easily reachable for
the user to access as they wish. The use of a sensing device on the hand to control an interface
which can be projected on any hard surface can help individuals to do tasks rather easily than
having to reach for the phone anytime a person wants to search for anything, call someone or
even check the time (Mistry & Maes, 2009). The use of phones can time wasting as well as
cumbersome to carry around as well as tiring every time one has to remove them from the pocket
and back.
The sensors are able to recognize different patterns which have been preset so that when
an individual performs a certain gesture a certain activity is performed by the sensor. If a person
wants to make a call, they can make a certain gesture with their fingers and the sensor will
automatically pick what they want to do. They can draw a pattern on their arms so that keypads
appear for dialing purposes or give a voice order for calling a particular individual. The product
has seamless integration with little room for errors, hence patterns are hard to confuse for other
actions (Rao, 2010).
Benefits of the new product
The product has numerous benefits to the users, first: it enables saving of time for
individuals, the product has modules which ensure a reliable and fast response when the users
make any move. If a person is doing some shopping and they want to go through numerous
products before they select their final product (Rao, 2010). The research may require time to
conduct and if the resources used are not sufficient, the person may end up spending hours to
select a single product, but with the product, it scans the names of the products fast and retrieves
any information about it from the company website as well as the internet, in general, making it
easier to access and have the right choice.
