Learning Objectives: ✓ Identify and label the location of historical examples of forward capital relocations. ✓ Describe possible explanations for each of these forward capital relocations. Background: Countries make the decision to undergo the expensive process of relocating their federal capitals for a variety of reasons. Motivation for forward capital moves include strategic, economic, and unification efforts. Formatting this assignment: Word document formatting as required for all Spring 2017 GEOG 100 submissions (see D2L for required details). Your map page does not need to have a header, but be sure to include one on your description page(s). Depending on how you complete this assignment, you may or may not need to include a reference list. **Submission of your completed assignment: To receive credit for this assignment, it must be submitted by the beginning of class on the due date noted at the top of these directions. Your completed exercise should be submitted directly to Dr. Schmid during office hours, before/after class, or to the staff in the Geography Department office in MH 206 prior to the due date. **Note: Extra credit assignments submitted to the Geography office on the due date will not receive any credit. Be as specific as possible, and comment on whether or not you think the original goal has been accomplished. 3) On a blank world base map locate and label the following six countries and their old and new forward capital city locations. ✓ You must label the map by hand, no computer labels will be accepted. ✓ You must label all 12 cities, and somehow distinguish which are the old capitals and which are the forward capitals. ✓ On a world map, the scale will be somewhat limiting, just make the city locations as clear as possible---using a pencil might be helpful!!
