Alharbi 1 Stage 1 Course: PUAD 629 Returning to the community after a period of imprisonment in jail is a difficult situation. It becomes even more complex for inmates who suffer from major mental illnesses, such as Parkinson’s or Schizophrenia. People who work in the social work field comprehensively know that people need food and housing to survive and sustain their living and seek to complete those needs first, but sometimes these basic needs get neglected when building programs to address complex problems, such as those facing people with mental illness when exiting their jail terms. Jails, unlike prisons, house offenders who are serving short-term sentences or those anticipating trial. Therefore, releases from jails are more inconstant than prisons allowing less time for planning and transitional services. The problems connected with the transition from jail to the community are also complicated by a general hypothesis within the correctional system that family and friends will house and care for released inmates. That, however, is a wrong assumption because normally family members do not tend to associate themselves again. Some inmates lose everything that they possessed while in jail, including a driver's license and social security card. Once they are released, access to their housing might be lost as well. Having conducted numerous researches n person and through critical observation, a recent study has seen some inmates during winter wearing summer clothing. One woman was released wearing see-through pajamas. Different inmates reported having no finances or a place to live. Once inmates leave the jail???, they go through a transitional phase to reach back to their communities. It requires them to explore a number of social service systems such as public assistance, public mental health organizations, and substance abuse services. Without having a safe and stable place to live where they can focus on recovering themselves and grasping their future, all of their energy is focused on the direct need to survive on the streets. Being homeless makes it difficult to move forward or to find the necessary social support from others to be successful. Most importantly, education, employment, and treatment for drug and mental health issues all play a role in successful reintegration of the inmates back to their respective societies. The program that I am going to focus on will aim to ensure the success and immediate improvement of an inmate’s lifestyle. For this specific program, we aim to contact and communicate with inmates who have been recently released. We want to incorporate the best in medication to help inmates clear their basic medical tests (Johnson, 2015). Firstly, all medical attention will be paid to inmates since prisons do not normally give regular check-ups and inmates survive on their own while they spend their time in confinement. Our purpose is to Alharbi 2 ensure stabilityin the mind and body. Appropriate training will be given to the inmates so that they can get back on their own without being dependent on an organization or an individual. Once an inmate registers with us he will be undergoing a complete overhaul. Changes in mental and physical characteristics will take place. This program is designed on 4 activities: 1. Counselling & Treatment. 2. Housing. 3. Juvenile Programs, and 4. Employment Training. Our ultimate aim is to help individuals break free from the stigma of having a criminal record, and provide the skills and support they need to build healthier and productive lives. 1. Counselling & Treatment: Inpatient: We will specialize in treating people who are fighting substance use disorders and have been unsuccessful in other different treatment programs. An inter-disciplinary unit will organize a comprehensive range of services to meet this population’s needs. Outpatient: Services will be designed to promote recovery through an inmate-focused, strength-based and exclusive approach. Mental health counseling will also be offered to those who need it. We will also be focusing heavily on the safe withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs through an inpatient detoxification treatment. In addition to stabilization and security, our team of experts will assess inmates' mental health and substance use disorder-related requirements and help them obtain the services. 2. Housing: Clean housing will be provided. All of our clean and sober units will be dedicated to substance-free living. Program staff will provide drug and alcohol tests, and act as a link with other case managers, counselors, and corrections staff. Another facility that we would like to incorporate within our business model would be housing for veterans. Case management for addiction and mental health issues, and employment services to help residents join the workforce will also be given. 3. Juvenile Programs. The third aspect of the program includes the ability to rescue the younger generation and guide them about the dangers of committing a crime and substance abuse. In addition to that, we want to make it a complete facility so we would also like to develop a secure facility for undocumented and unaccompanied male youth awaiting an immigration hearing in federal court. Another facility will include male only residential facilities for juveniles with a history of severe behavioral problems. The main idea of the business plan is to discourage young children from indulging in any activity that could cause potential. 4. Employment and Training: Our business plan will aim to offer a range of training opportunities to help inmates overcome employment barriers, and find and retain their jobs. Individuals will also learn the skills needed to manage a substance-free lifestyle, and make intelligent decisions at work and within their personal lives (Garell, 2016). Initial focus would be upon how to make good decisions and be a productive employee. Skill development exercises would include: dealing with authority, managing time and decisions, professional Alharbi 3 communication and conflict resolve. Job-search readiness focuses on the skills needed to look for work, including developing job search strategies, navigating questions about their criminal history, writing targeted resumes and cover letters, and interviewing effectively. These programs will also focus on job-specific skill development and inmates will earn various certifications. The goal is for these people to gain the skills needed to obtain entry level work within the industry in which they trained. The research questions that I would like to ask would be: 1. What is the guarantee that released inmates would benefit from programs if they are not officially certified rehabilitation programs? 2. To what extent does the revival of an inmates’ psychological health help him in recovering from trauma and disease? 3. What other elements are important to adjust inmates back to their respective communities? References Johnson, S. (2015, June 30). Social Solutions.
