Diabetes has been confirmed as one of the major causes of death according to the recent
research works. In USA, it is the sixth major cause of deaths. This is a condition that adversely
affects the normal metabolism of the body. It is divided into Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2. This
paper will entirely be based on Diabetes Type 2 enlisting a conversation with a patient of 85
years male.
Diabetes is a condition caused characterized by the sudden rise of blood glucose in the
body higher than the normal level. Of the two types, the Type 2 diabetes is the most common.
The Type 2 is mostly caused by the inability of the body to utilize the insulin properly due to
insulin resistance. In its initial stages, the pancreas will try to make more insulin but fails to keep
up with time leading to accumulation of glucose above the normal level (Cleveland Clinic,
2014).
On one occasion as a nurse I had a back and forth talk to a patient who needed education on
Type 2 diabetes.
The conversation went as follows;
Patient: Hello… excuse me! May I have your attention?
Me: Yes, please how may I help you?
Patient: I have received my lab test results on Diabetes and it indicates I have diabetes Type 2.
