Description

For your second paper, you will read Suetonius' biography of Nero and Pope Gregory's biography of St. Benedict. The Nero reading can be found on Blackboard under course content. The Benedict reading can be found as at this site- https://muse-jhu-edu.montgomerycollege.idm.oclc.or...

You will have to put in your MC ID to access this reading. : M20932785

The paper should be at least 5 pages, 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, one-inch margins. I encourage you to use brief quotes from the readings to buttress your arguments. You must cite when quoting from the readings and whenever you choose to use outside sources (although you are not required to consult outside sources). Compare and contrast the these two individuals- Nero and Benedict. Focus especially on their character, their personality, their effectiveness as leaders, their family relationships. And compare the two biographers, Suetonius and Gregory. How is Gregory's approach at writing biography similar to Suetonius? How do their attitudes to their subjects differ? Why do you think these authors are so different?

Comparing Empire Suetonius Nero and pope Gregory’s Biographies
Nero was a Roman Empire who was cruel enough to know of his adopting father’s death
and remain silent about it and also kill his adopted brother. This is part of the information
deducted from his biography (Bradley 2-89). Pope Gregory has passed in history as one of the
most humble and Godly pope. He even lived in a jungle before he was made pope. This is also
information deducted from his autobiography. The two were almost an inverse of each other;
with some exception in elements such as brevity and power which they both had (Saint Gregory
the Great and Zimmerman, 44-52). This paper compares Pope Gregory (St. Benedict) and
Empire Suetonius (Nero) in the light of their character, their personalities, effectiveness of their
leaderships, as well as their biographical skills of relaying this information.

Character
Nero was cruel. When he was adapted by Claudius after being impressive in a game of
troy, he was supposed to embrace other brothers who were to be adopted by Claudius. On the
contrary, he did not embrace Britannicus who was adopted after him. While greeting his new
brother, he tried to show Claudius that Britannicus was not his brother. This was after Seneca, a
member of Claudius’ senate, was appointed to train Nero and on the first night Seneca had a

corrupted free born boys. Claudius was murdered. He knew it but he never talked about it
