Question Description

Part 1) Explain how and why you chose the topic researched

Use an Attention-getter.

Add a Bridge: Identify the topic and author you selected for the research project.

Add a Main idea sentence: Explain why you chose one of the suggested topics inspired by essays in the textbook and connected to another essay outside of the text.

Thesis: Write a sentence summarizing the points you will discuss in the research reflection.

Part 2) Discuss any challenges faced in writing the research essay.

You may include challenges discussed in class: Was it forming a thesis, topic sentences, MLA formatting, time management for the writing process, use of word-processing , i.e. Microsoft Word, access to a computer, etc. ? Provide an example of a quote that proved hard to understand. List questions that you have for the author?

On the other hand, you may also discuss benefits of the research project. What processes helped you? The research workshop and Mrs. Wyche, using a Smarthinking tutor, The Writing Center, class discussion and lectures, learning how to use databases, peer review, etc.

Part 3) Discuss the way you present the research paper.

Besides interpreting the text and finding supporting commentary, did you insert any graphics such as charts, photos, and statistics? What elements did you include for content development? What types of materials did you use? How did the new material extend your learning? Give an example of a specific fact you did not know before.

Part 4) Provide examples of your writing strengths that are in the research paper.

What do you want the reader to notice in the portfolio? Provide an example of an accomplishment from the writing of which you are most proud. Copy a particular example of your good writing to show as an example.

Part 5) Provide a general overview of your progress in ENGL 1102 as a writer. (This section should not contain a reflection or evaluation of the instructor.)

How have your writing skills grown or not developed from the beginning of the semester?

Discuss specific ideas from this author that you have learned. What will you take away? Provide a favorite line from one of the readings that inspired you to do further research. Cite this quote.

Part 6) As you move on, what are your goals for learning/writing/research in your next ENGL or scheduled class?

How do you feel about yourself as a writing student?

Part 7) Add a Works Cited page to document the quotes used. Do not use urls or anything other than MLA style.
