IRP: Data Driven Decision Making using SAS (Estimated time to complete: 6.0 hours)
Summary: In this Independent Research Project (IRP), students conduct an analysis project using
SAS primarily and Excel as needed to analyze real world data. The student will create and submit a
business memo that clearly communicates their analysis of a real world data set. The students will
also create a Power Point presentation that summarizes their IRP and present their analysis live, via
video-teleconference or as a recorded video presentation. The student will also answer questions
about their presentation in discussion.

Directions:
1. Download the attachments listed above from the LMS (Blackboard).
2. Click on the link for the video, use the directions in the attachments to follow along in the
assignment. Stop the video when you need to complete a step.
3. Open the “Business Memo Template” file, and save it as Word file entitled “YourLastName
IRP”. For example, if my last name were “Jones”, I would save the file as “Jones IRP” without
the quotation marks. Word will add the .docx extension automatically.
4. Modify the sections of the Business Memo as directed, using the results of your analysis using
SAS. Make sure to provide a clear recommendation to the business question asked in the
Business Report template about the analytical question you are trying to answer using the
data you imported. Save the file.
5. Open the “IRP Presentation Template” file, and save it as a Power Point file entitled
“YourLastName IRP Presentation”. Power Point will add the .pptx extension automatically.
6. Modify the sections of the IRP Presentation as needed, using the results of your analysis, your
Business Report, and your research into your analytical question. Be prepared to answer
questions about your analysis, and your Business Report, during your presentation.
7. Upload your file that contains your completed Business Memo, and the IRP Presentation to
the IRP assignment in the LMS (Blackboard).
8. If giving a live presentation, confirm the date and time of your presentation.
9. After your presentation, answer any questions posted in the LMS Discussion Board about
your presentation, up to the final due date of the IRP Assignment.
