Ethics in public presentations
Frequently we have influential people in business and leadership who present unpleasant
content in public speaking. It is disappointing that such high profile people make simple
mistakes which they otherwise should not. We have ground rules which a public lecturer can
employ to earn credibility and show ethics before their audience (Hogan et al., 9). They include
the following:
First, a speaker in a public presentation should act in ways consistent with the message
and theme of the presentation. Adoption of this tactic can be in the form of facial expressions and
intonation that shows that one is concerned with the company or institutions they are
representing. Showing disinterest when sharing bad news can irritate listeners. Employing
Variety, quick movements and enthusiasm when presenting a good news can impress the
audience.
Secondly, preparing well for the presentation is an ethical show to the audience. Getting a
chance to speak to people especially in a company or any other institution especially on
something touching on their welfare calls for extensive preparations. They need to see great
effort in what one has to share. Otherwise, they may feel betrayed if the presentation is recklessly
done.
