Policemen of the World Final Paper

By the mid-20th century, the United States had become the dominant force in international relations. Some have argued that the United States’ military functions as the world’s “police.” This assignment covers the manner in which this shift occurred and the consequences the United States faces as a result of its status as “policemen of the world.” Using the Internet and reputable news sources, research two (2) real-life international incidents from the past five (5) years in which:

In the absence of a supranational democratically-elected world police, the US has taken a
more dominant role in the complex manifold of international operations. For example, since the
World War II, the United States has periodically intervened militarily in nations experiencing
conflict, such as and the South Sudan intervention and the 11th June 2016 US military
intervention to help in the Iraq war against ISIL.
International events involving the US military.
In July 2016, South Sudan fell at the verge of anther civil war that saw many facilities in
the nation destroyed and many lives lost. After years of hostilities, threats of sanctions, and failed
peace efforts, the US saw it critical to intervene and bolster security to stop the war and protect
the US embassy in Sudan as well as the US personnel in the nation, (Dabrowski, J). Under the
orders of President Obama, the US Secretary of Defense commanded forty troops (in addition to
the already pre-positioned members) of American service members into Juba, South Sudan.
The military personnel received several vehicles, combat equipment and were assigned
the responsibility of crisis response in South Sudan by protecting the embassy in Sudan and
remaining within the country until the security situation restored and their presence was no
longer needed, (Dabrowski, J). An additional troop of American soldiers was positioned in
Djibouti to intervene in case additional security required within the course of the civil war in
South Sudan.
The US military increased and deepened its involvement in the ISIL crisis in Iraq. Under
President Obama, 560 American troops were commanded into Iraq to intervene in the nation`s
