1.
A company must decide if it will maintain a sales force from the home nation, or set
up a local sales force in the country in which it sells products. Provide a specific
example of a product and briefly explain why it would be best to hire a sales force
from the local (foreign) nation to sell that product.
Setting a local sales force is quite advantageous considering that most of the
people involved are sufficiently versed with the market essentials, culture, and dynamics
of a particular place. A perfect example of such a need involves Apple whose
performance in China is on the decline. The local sales force is aware of the Chinese
needs and will, in turn, advise Apple on where to make changes that suit the market apart
from luring people into it by incorporating Chinese employees. Above all, they know
how to handle and entice customers into buying using local strategies.
2.
A competitive advantage means that a company provides a product that has
something unique or superior to that of the competition. Name an international
company that uses product quality as its competitive advantage. Then briefly
describe what you think would happen if the company lowered the quality of that
product.
One company that factors quality above all things is Wal-Mart. Despite other
companies that compete with it being cheap, the company does not compromise the
quality of its products regardless of the market pressure (Tuttle, 2013). If it were to lower
the quality, the immediate impact is a loss of customers. That is definite since a
significant proportion buys from it just because of quality as opposed to the price.

Briefly describe how the consumer behavior of teenagers differs in a developed
country, such as the United States, versus a developing country, such as Honduras.
Provide a specific example to help explain your answer.
Just as in the case of adults, teenagers differ in both sets where many in the
developed countries prefer products that stand out from the others and buy them based on
the price, quality as well as durability among other factors. However, they are
unreceptive of the values in the developing countries. On the other hand, the ones in
developing countries prefer products that belong from their own culture regardless of the
quality-ethnocentrism plays a major role, which is a case in many African countries. Still,
they fall into products’ ads that play on their local and cultural values and traditions
Chucwuemeca (2016).
4.
Briefly, explain why a company cannot always use the same marketing campaign
for all of its target markets. Provide a specific example to help explain your answer.
Every successful business depends on a successful and compelling marketing
campaign. However, the need to change and applying different strategies is that the
market size, needs, and characteristics are never alike. Also, times change and require
integration of new features that prior methods may fail to provide. The competition level
is another significant determinant. For example, and in concurrence with Bradley (2017),
if one is operating an ice cream business where others do not operate, it will not be the
same as in a market where a hundred others are operational.

Briefly, explain why product sampling could be necessary to ensure the success of
the product. Provide a specific example of a product that is best sold through
product sampling, and the best place to set up to give out samples of that product.
Product sampling helps customers to have a feel of the product; they come into
contact with it and understand it better. For instance, products that can be sold perfectly
in this way are the agriculturally processed where one can place them at a supermarket’s
entry for people to taste as they enter. In turn, place the others at a good point-of-sale
display for purchasing purposes.
6.
In your opinion, what is the major advantage of a joint venture? Provide a specific
example to help explain your answer.
The major advantage is shared resources and responsibilities. Quite often, one
may have a business mind or identify a beneficial opportunity but fail to have the
knowledge, technology or human capital that another company has. As a result, coming
together ensures accessing these essential resources hence achieving the investment goal.
A perfect example is Microsoft and GE Joint Venture to form Caradigm in 2011.
7.
In your opinion, what is the most important factor that a company should consider
when making a product design decision for an international brand? Provide a
specific example to help explain your answer.
The most important factor to consider is the target market. In the international
scene, market demands vary significantly due to different cultures, age categories,
preferences and religion among other factors. For instance, the way a company like
Keurig Rosters would sell coffee in Texas will vary with the product’s features when
selling in India or Saudi Arabia; it will require addressing tastes and cultural differences.
