President Reagan will always be remembered as one of the most effective presidents in
American history, and his contributions were of much importance to the overall development of
the American nation. One important area where Reagan helped to reform is the welfare programs
(Wing, 1985).The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act entered into force in 1981, and it was
able to implement significant changes in the eligibility standards as well as operating procedures
of the American welfare system. The rationale of these programs was to generate substantial
programs savings. The basic AFDC program aimed at providing monetary assistance to the lowincome families which were mostly single parent families. The impact of the AFDC program
was substantial because it was implemented in many states. The policy was of much importance
to the US because it ensured that low-income workers would get financial support.
President Reagan implemented the Medicare policy as well as other social welfare
entitlement programs that were of much benefit to the population. These social welfare programs
replaced public charity which had been placed under the Roosevelt Administration. These
