Description

Respond to a peer and share with them at least one more way they could use screeners with young children that was not shared in their initial post. In addition, provide them with at least two ideas for how they can involve the child’s family in the screening process. 5 sentences or more.

  • Explain the relationship between observations and screeners in the assessment of young children. Include at least two specific examples of how they are connected.

“Screening is the administration of a brief assessment to identify possible problems that may later be further evaluated using more extensive and more accurate assessment” (Howard, V. F., & Aiken 5.1 para1). Observations are notes collected about a child. These observations are needed for the screening process. These two observations are needed in order to diagnose a child.

  • Discuss how the information shared in the video does or does not align with the screening process shared in the case study in the introduction section of Chapter 5 of the course text. Include at least two specific examples to support your thinking.

It does align with the screening process from chapter 5. The video and the case study started by doing observations taking all the information before making a decision. Both cases meet with parents to talk about the situation. The give more information about the process of screening a child than the video.

  • Based on your understanding of the purposes of screeners, how will you use screening in your current or future work with young children? Make sure to include specific examples that are connected to the purposes of assessment shared in the video and the course text.

We have a boy that at the beginning of the year he did not wanted to go to his sit or have any contact with other children he did not listen to the teachers. We brought it up to the principal because he did not want to go to the restroom and he was wetting his pants every day. The principal told us to observe and record his behavior because he was too small to do any type of screening. So that’s what we have been doing. He has progress a lot since the beginning of the year. He is more social and participates in the groups and the most important he can go to the restroom by himself.
