Filippo Pacini and Robert Koch are other individuals that
were key in the research of the disease.

Initially hard to distinguish a person suffering from
cholera from a person suffering from other diarrhea
disease
The stool is tested to make conclusive health reports
Acute diarrhea could not necessarily mean presence of a
cholera outbreak
Diagnosis includes the isolation and identification of
either serogroup O1 or O139 of the causative pathogen
through stool culture

The Bacteria
Comma-shaped bacilli which are anaerobic and its size is
approximately μm 1-3 long and 0.4-0.9μm in the
diameter.
study showed that there existed about a dozen
serogroups of this bacteria but further identified 200 of
them
Vibrio cholerae O1’s El Tor biotype is the most dominant
cholera causing bacteria.

The use of antibiotics to treat cholera works to reduce
the severity of symptoms especially where the
