“Killing us softly” is usually the Jean Kilbourne’s latest film based on the women image
on advertising. The film has greatly concentrated on women bodies on how they are involved in
advertising. Through the film, there are various images of women that Kilbourne has used in
order to show how women are being used through advertising. The images collected are
normally of late and from the 1960s, where they are comprised of black and white and colored
images. The images are used to impose great criticism on how women are used by the
organization through advertisement. There are verities of products that are seen in the film
whereby women have been involved in the ads, both sharing a common aspect of impossible
morals of women sexuality and beauty in order to sell more products and create awareness to the
market for the merchandises.
Based on the Kilbourne film, there are various facts that are normally against women
ethics, whereby many images are exposing naked women bodies in the name of advertisement. It
is clear in the film that ads do not create violence, but her focus is to prove on how women are
being objects in advertising for money. The objectivity of women on ads is a way that she
considers as the creation of violence. An example that Kilbourne has given is the utilization of
half-naked women on ads, in order to attract the eye of many viewers for the advertisement
purpose. Besides women being half-naked, school girls being involved in ads while they are
improperly dressed is a state that is completely not pleasing. Through these images, it is clear
that women body images utilization is killing us softly since the photos are completely unethical
to society. Through watching this film, it is true that advertisement is killing us softly since the
