In other words, the sociological imagination helps people link their own individual biographies to the broader forces of social life: "Neither the life of an individual nor the history of a society can be understood without understanding both" (Mills 1959).

The Sociological Imagination
C Wright Mills defined the Sociological Imagination as “the awareness of the
relationship between personal experience and the wider society (Mills 1959).” Mills goes on to
explain that the sociological imagination is, simply put, the application of sociological idealisms
to one’s own life. By coining this term, Mills set off a revolution within the world of sociology,
kickstarting a major segment of sociological studies. One of the major consequences of Mill’s
