The advent of the digital era in the communications has significantly changed the
temporal dimension of life both at private and public spheres and its application is a matter of
legal concern. With the growing use of internet and its easy accessibility, everyone is currently
looking for space on the internet either for political, social or financial gains. With both public
and private entities finding it convenient to communicate and share information through social
media, the mainstream media has also joined the bandwagon with over 50% of news finding
their way to these platforms (Oxenford, 2009). Before the advent of the internet, print and
audiovisual media were considered the formal avenue of broadcasting, however, with
technological advancement, this landscape is rapidly taking the new route. With this in mind, it is
high time to review the legal purpose of the internet in the modern day.
