Community corrections refer to sanctions which are imposed on adjudicated juveniles
and convicted adults who are found within the community or residential settings outside of
prison. Usually, the sanctions are enforced by courts or agencies which have legal authority
over the identified juvenile offenders. The most common operators of community corrections
are parole and probation agencies.
The major objective of community corrections is to keep the community safe by
reprimanding the juvenile offenders appropriately while preventing them from committing a
crime. In this regard, there are three major focus points for community corrections. These
include rehabilitating the offenders, punishing the offenders, and isolating chronic offenders.
Focusing on both these factors is vital as it gives the community correction agencies a
wholesome approach which minimizes the occurrence of crimes within the community from
three standpoints. However, it is more prudent to focus on rehabilitating the juvenile offenders
(Grandisson, Hébert, & Thibeault, 2014). This is because the current changes in the criminal
