While myfuture was originally designed for schools, it has been extended to include information and career tools for high school leavers and adults already working. While there is a login section for users of the site, you can explore a whole range of information on careers and professional development options by clicking on the Menu Options on the right handside of the homepage. Career Insight and Case Studies sections are most valuable. According to myfuture: “A career is the sum total of paid and unpaid work, learning and life roles you undertake throughout your life. The term 'career' was traditionally associated with paid employment and referred to a single occupation. In today's world of work the term 'career' is seen as a continuous process of learning and development”. You can find information relevant to career planning and exploration at by going directly to the Career Insight section using the following link: http://myfuture.edu.au/careerinsight There are some useful insights on: Entrepreneurship https://myfuture.edu.au/careerinsight/entrepreneurship Job Search Tips https://myfuture.edu.au/careerinsight/details?id=13placestosearchforjobs Responding to Job Advertisements https://myfuture.edu.au/careerinsight/details?id=respondingtojobadvertisements Interview Tips https://myfuture.edu.au/careerinsight/details?id=4stepstoasuccessfulinformationinterview As you research the type of career path you might like to pursue, you should also be looking at what further skills and learning you will need to acquire to progress your career. Make some notes as you research this. You will need to be thinking of your future as you are planning your present. Some of the things you may look at when planning your future career could include: Determining what formal courses you should be looking at – e.g. if you plan to be a programmer, should you be updating your skills or learning a new language; or you might look to acquire specialised network accreditation such as CISCO certification if you wish to be a network administrator. Are you planning to join any professional organisations – will you maintain your ACS membership – what benefits will this have for you? Should you be looking at improving your oral and/or written communications skills further – perhaps joining a club such as Apex, Rotary or Toastmasters might help you improve these skills and widen your professional networks. The Careers Foundation's Interactive Career Wheel at http://www.careersfoundation.com.au/ provides a useful tool to help you explore many careers available to IT Professionals. The ACS, as you know, also has regular conferences and events in each State to which all members are invited.
