Pandemic influenza raises an abundance of ethical questions, especially when faced with
the question of a patient’s autonomy and justice. A patient certainly has the right to control what
is done to his or her body, as well as the right to be treated fairly, equally, and legally by their
health care provider. Pandemic influenza is no exception to these rights, but the decision-making
process is altered to adjust to this specific situation. Some liberty-limiting actions may be taken,
such as delegation of resources on a social worth scale and social distancing methods within a
